208-613 Advanced Plant Breeding and Improvements

Case studies are used to illustrate the steps involved in taking knowledge from research laboratory or breeding trials and producing and releasing novel crop varieties. This subject will include a small research project in an area chosen by each student.

On completion of the subject, students should have a sound and broad understanding of the plant breeding systems. The case studies will allow students to contextualize their understanding of laboratory methods and develop an understanding of real-life exploitation of genetic improvement of crop plants.
