The subject addresses the recognition, identification and systematic analysis of landscape plants in south-eastern Australia. Emphasis is placed on identifying plants commonly used in urban horticulture, understanding plant use and selection for a range of urban landscape types, issues of plant management within designed landscapes, basic plant taxonomy and systematic theory, characters for taxonomic variation, and the use of keys with selected plant genera.
At conclusion of this subject you should be able to recognize landscape plants used in urban landscapes in south-eastern Australia; describe basic plant taxonomy and systematic theory; apply this to plant recognition and identification; utilize botanical and horticultural keys for plant identification and demonstrate an understanding of plant selection and plant management in designed landscapes.
